The Obscure Art of Puzzle Montage

Artist Tim Klein learned that a jigsaw puzzle manufacturer typically uses the same die-cut pattern for many different puzzles. This makes the pieces interchangeable so that he can combine portions from two or more puzzles to make montages. Such a neat idea, and he’s produced some amazingly surreal pieces of artwork that he now sells for over $650 each. Tim mentioned that there are only a few artists that do this type of artwork. He was first influenced by art professor Mel Andringa who is supposedly the originator of this type of collage, and has been doing it for over 50 years. I might have to pull out some old puzzles and give this a try! If you’d like to learn more about the artist you can visit his website here.
