One of a Kind Home Design

I truly believe that “good design” pays attention to details. Even better design adds a personal touch. I think this rings true of all types of design—graphic, interactive, interior, etc. Grace Mitchell, an interior designer on HGTV’s One of a Kind, has a really unique process of really getting to know her clients before diving into a project and finds inspiration in their personal stories. Whether it’s their favorite place to vacation, their jobs, their passions, family history, or favorite color, she uses these tidbits of information as a springboard to create her thoughtful and unexpected designs, and tell their story throughout their home. The end results are truly unique and personal homes that have every detail accounted for. Here are some of my favorite homes she has designed.

Treillage is a design element first seen in France around the 17th century! It became more prominent in America in the 1920s, which is why I knew it would be the perfect choice for this home built in that era. I cannot thank @mello_signs enough for making this #treillage dream come true! Every piece and every cut was customized for this space, and Joe and his team nailed it like always. (Thank you @mello_signs !!) I love how the original archways of this very special entry are highlighted by this custom design!! 😍 Also, did you notice that by moving the second arch to the office doorway, it echoes the one from the entryway perfectly? See the perspective from either way by swiping left on these gorgeous images by the incredible photographer @lisapetrole . 💜💙💚💛🧡 I love kid art. Yes, it can pile up. Yes, it is difficult at times to know what to do with it all. But you can turn it into wallpaper and make one special little room! 💜💙💚💛🧡 Spending time with the darling Cowden girls (great job Mom & Dad!) and creating this art was one of my favorite moments of this season of #hgtvoneofakind . When I saw the artistic passion of this trio, I knew I wanted to make a wallpaper with their drawings. 🎨 And how great was it to see Ms. Becky sooooo excited by her perfect seam match?! 😆🎉🎉 I relish custom wallpaper projects, and I am very grateful to @muralsyourway for printing these panels so perfectly EVERY TIME! (Seriously, they are awesome to work with!) Special thanks also to @ashleykeanedesign who did the graphic design for this project and worked so diligently! 📷: @lisapetrole #storiedstyleinteriors Light: @dunesandduchess Table: @worldmarket Wallpaper Panel Printing: @muralsyourway Wallpaper Graphic Design: @ashleykeanedesign

💙💙 Some of my favorite elements of a space I design for #hgtvoneofakind are the practical ones…yes, I love pretty lighting and gorgeous tile, but for this #kitchendesign , I especially like the little nook with shelves under the butcher block area of this #kitchenisland . Kid craft supplies, cookbooks, and other fast-grab kitchen needs can easily be stored here! Practicality is beautiful to me; the function of a home is just as important as the "jewelry" chosen to beautify it. 💙💙 📷: @lisapetrole Pendant Lighting: @weplight Backsplash Tile: @bottegadesigngallery Cabinetry Paint Color: color matched to tile Vent Hood Paint Color: @benjaminmoore 'Seapearl' Outdoor Fabric on Counterstools: @schumacher1889 #storiedstyleinteriors
