“Wolfwalkers” from Cartoon Saloon

A new feature length film, Wolfwalkers, is set to come out from the four-time Academy Award®, Golden Globe®, BAFTA, and Emmy nominated Irish animation studio, Cartoon Saloon. The trailer shows a magical tale full of wild and dangerous adventure, from IMDB:

“In a time of superstition and magic, when wolves are seen as demonic and nature an evil to be tamed, a young apprentice hunter, ROBYN, comes to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last pack. But when Robyn saves a wild native girl, MEBH, their friendship leads her to discover the world of the WOLFWALKERS and transform her into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.”

I am excited about the narrative, but as a creative, I am more excited for what I know will be elaborately illustrated and beautifully crafted animation. The atmosphere created by Cartoon Saloon’s films is hard to beat.

In 2014, Cartoon Saloon produced the beautiful and whimsical Song of the Sea, which has come to be one of my all-time favorite animated movies. They also created and directed the mysterious and beautiful The Secret of Kells (2009) and many other amazing short films and animations.

They set the bar high when it comes to animated films, so be sure to keep a lookout for Wolfwakers debuting in late 2020.
