Art Meets Humanitarianism

“He tries to give a voice to what’s been silent,” is a quote taken from the trailer for the soon to be released documentary featuring French photographer and street artist JR. “Paper & Glue,” a MSNBC Films production chronicles years of JR’s photography and installations, which increasingly focus on humanitarian issues. In JR’s own words he asks “Can art change the world?” and “It’s not about the art it’s about the people.” In 2011 JR won the TED prize and was awarded $100,000.00. With his winnings JR launched “Inside Out,” a global participatory project with the wish to change the world by turning it “Inside Out.” Since then, JR’s large format prints and street postings have shifted viewers focus to the invisible and has called attention to global injustices. “Paper and Glue” will premiere this Friday, December 10th at 10pm on MSNBC.
